Hello Everybody!

Tidbit turns four and….

August 25th is a big day for Tidbit! Tidbit turns four! It seems just like yesterday when we opened the doors. As with any anniversary, we are preparing something very memorable to celebrate this birthday: our celebration will last five days, from August 23rd through August 27th. For the entire time, we are going to have specials on everything that we love… including Wine, Food, Coffee and, of course, Grappa! We hope to see you at least one of these days and thank you for your support.

…Tidbit is closing

With our fourth birthday approaching fast, we have also decided to start new chapters in our lives and to sell Tidbit. The fourth week of August will be our last week of operations. If you want to know more about this decision and the future of Tidbit, feel free to stop by for a bite and drink between August 23rd and August 27th. We are going to be savoring the past 4 years through food and drink. John and Nic would love to see you and will be happy to share, in person, all the details and their future projects!

For the fourth year, One Degree Events is organizing Annual Pride FEAST. This year it is on Thursday, June 23, 2011.

Tidbit bistro will donate a percentage of its sales (20%) to Health & Wellness non-profits in the LGBT community who need that money to help keep us healthy! 100% of net proceeds from the event will go to two community non-profit organizations: Gay City Health Project and Seattle Counseling Services.

Start Pride weekend off with a fun event and help us raise some much-needed funds for the health and wellness of our community!

World MS Day Seattle - May 25, 2011

Mark your calendar!

Dine at Tidbit Bistro on May 25th and help children affected by multiple sclerosis.

On May 25th, restaurants, bars, bakeries, cafes, and other businesses all across Seattle will be joining together for a common cause: to help children affected by multiple sclerosis by donating a percentage of their sales to our cause. The money will be used to buy books for children who either have multiple sclerosis or who have a parent who does. The children's book about MS was written to help kids cope with and understand the disease. All profits from the book sales go to MS research. Info and details on the restaurants and other businesses participating are here.

Please come out and support these businesses on May 25th, spread the word, and invite your friends. Tidbit Bistro will donate 30% of its sales to this cause.

Seattle Restaurant Week UPDATE - April 2011

It is Seattle Restaurant Week!

Dine out and celebrate the spring run of Seattle Restaurant Week, April 10-21, 2011 (excluding dinner on Fridays and Saturdays). Curious about our menu? You can find it on the Seattle Times or, with a few more descriptions on our previous post.

Make your reservation to Tidbit Bistro and enjoy a three-course dinner for just $28 or a three-course lunch for $15. With over 150 restaurants participating, this is one of the biggest event for restaurants in Seattle.

Some reasons why you want to choose us? Here they are:

Our popular Caesar salad will be on the Seattle Restaurant Week menu. Our Caesar was recently voted as “best salad” on the Seattle Magazine Readers’ Choice April 2011 edition.

We offer FREE 90 minute parking. Our parking is underground in the Harvard Market. That’s a big bonus on Capitol Hill!

We have many vegetarian choices on both our Seattle Restaurant Week menus and on our regular lunch and dinner menus.

We have a full VEGAN menu just for Seattle Restaurant week. Ask for our additional vegan menus.

We are OPEN on Mondays during Seattle Restaurant Week. We will be open Monday April 11th and Monday April 18th.

Easter falls on April 24^th this year, and to celebrate we are going to host a very special Easter brunch! We will be open from 10 am until 3 pm. This is going to be a very special brunch because it will be the first of a long series....

Okay, you know this: we are not too good at keeping a secret. So, do you want to be the first to hear some exciting news? Back by popular demand, we will be opening for weekend brunch starting Saturday, April 30th! Every Saturday and Sunday! Now that’s exciting news.

Of course, we will have a fun kids' menu, many vegetarian and vegan options, and gluten free options...we are still working on the details: we are still testing potatoes, sauces, and few more things. Dining Out for Life

Tidbit will take part for the third year in the 18th annual Dining Out for Life, one of Seattle’s favorite ways to fight AIDS. The last Thursday of April, over 150 restaurants from across the region, including tidbit, come together in support of the fight against HIV and AIDS.

What do you have to do? Just dine out with us on Thursday, April 28th, and we will donate a portion of our daily sales, including food, beverage, and alcohol, to Lifelong AIDS Alliance. Proceeds from Dining Out for Life help to feed those living with chronic illness in the Puget Sound region. Services include pickup and delivery of nutritious meals and groceries, housing assistance, medical insurance coverage, and counseling services. So, come see us April 28th.

Stay with me, now: Tidbit used to be near the Roanoke Tavern, in the space that was Cassis and then XO and now is Easy Joe's; then Tidbit moved to Broadway and Union, where La Spiga was (before itmoved), then the regrettable sushi restaurant Vi Bacchus. At best, Tidbit went from the location fire into the location frying pan; while the motto/menu remains "Where Madrid Meets Napoli on Capitol Hill," the place reflects far less harmonious meetings of interior decoration. But never mind all that: Tidbit's happy hour has$1 well drinks and wine. Also, there are crayons—drinks that cost one dollar are inspiring. Fundraiser for Ryanne - Update!

We made it!

Our friend Ryanne, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in early December, was delivered a new and shiny MacBook last Sunday January 30^th. More about our fundraiser can be found on our previous post by clicking here.

We would like to take a moment and thank all our guest who dined at tidbit anytime between January 9^th and January 13^th. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise $1,300. In addition to the MacBook, Ryanne is getting also a check. Ryanne has generously offered this check to her mom to help her pay some of the out of pocket expenses.

We were hoping to post a picture of Ryanne with her new MacBook. Unfortunately, this week Ryanne is not feeling well enough to get a picture taken. We will keep you posted and hopefully you will find some nice photos soon.

We will give you more updates about how Ryanne is doing in the next few days! Thank you for your support, we really appreciate it!

New Look, new Tablecloths!

Tablecloths and crayons are back!

Yes, we have decided to accent the room with some great new tablecloths. The new colors really brighten up the room. There are orange, marigold and sage colored tablecloths. Also, by popular demand, we brought back the crayons and butcher paper. Now, you can color while you dine.

Finally, the bar is now a lot more comfortable with regular larger tables and chairs.

Yes, it's that time of the year! Time to listen to new Italian Pop songs!!!

As always, this is the song competition that Eurovision used as the inspiration for their song contest. It's four days of new songs and special appearances. Who will show up this year, J-Lo (nope, probably not, she was there last year), Mike Tyson (nope, probably not, he was there three years ago)? I am not sure, but I know that there are always some fun guests. If you've watched as many videos as we have, most of the line up is comprised of known and loved artists.

Happy Hour: Good deals on tapas, $1 drinks at Tidbit Bistro

Tidbit Bistro is a taste of Spain and Italy on small plates, located on the edge of Capitol Hill. But the main reason folks want to know about this place now is its $1 happy-hour drink menu with wine, gin-and-tonic and other well drinks.
But it's not a lets-get-smashed kinda place.
It's a casual tapas joint, menu safe and familiar. A tortilla española or a plate of chorizo and manchego cheese on the happy-hour docket one night. Maybe some crunchy morsels the next. Usually about seven happy-hour items are offered each day.
Tidbit does better with the simple, crunchy bar bites: some buttery ham-and-cheese sandwich wedges. Some sauteed mushrooms, parmesan and mozzarella on top of toast. If you're lucky, you'll pop in when arancini gets served during happy hour — deep-fried saffron risotto balls with gooey mozzarella in the middle.
That $1 drink menu: The table wines featured were surpringly better than many of those wine-by-the-glass happy hour deals at other bars. That $1 well-drink special also means you'll see a share of rum-and-coke and vodka tonic go down when happy hour rolls around.
Tidbit is comfort food, as simple as you can get. It's a good deal for bar bites on a budget, with enough $2-$4 crunchy or deep-fried bites to fortify you for several rounds of $1 drinks.
Tidbit Bistro, 1401 Broadway, offers happy hour Tuesdays-Fridays and on Sundays from 4-6 p.m., and again from 9 p.m. to closing on Tuesdays-Fridays. Ryanne is 15 years old and was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease in early December. We know Ryanne well because her step-mom, Danii, works with us at tidbit. During the last few weeks, Ryanne has been going through aggressive chemotherapy and, while the results are still uncertain, we are confident that everything will go well.

Ryanne's wish for the new year was to have a new Macbook to keep in touch with her friends at her high school. Unfortunately, she was not able to get her wish fulfilled yet. Her dad, Pete, was "downsized" last year; he has been trying to keep everything together but finding a new job is hard even if you have time to look for a job full time. Her step-mom, Danii, is one of our best friends and a great supporter of tidbit since day one. Danii works two jobs to keep the family afloat. To complicate things, Ryanne's mother just gave birth to a younger brother as Ryanne was in the hospital undergoing chemo; so her mom has very limited time to spend with Ryanne.

Tidbit would like to do something special for Ryanne. We have donated so much in the past 3 1/2 years to organizations that stand for good causes, so we came up with a special promotion, something just for Ryanne.

During the second week in January, from January 9^th through January 13^th, tidbit will collect 10% of its proceeds and any additional donation to help Ryanne buy a Macbook. We all hope to make her wish come true. But we really need everyone's help to make this promotion successful.

So, we would love to see you support this brave teenager. Let’s get the year started off on the right foot! Your support and your donation will effect many lives.

Yes, it’s time to shake up our Happy Hour.

Starting in January 2011, Tidbit Bistro is going to offer something

great, fun, and crazy!

In 2010, we introduced the rotating dishes and drinks for our Happy Hour. Depending on the day, you can get different dishes and different drinks, but....

in 2011, things get even better! We are starting the year off with a bang!

First, the hours of the operations will be longer. Our Happy Hour will start at 4 pm and last until 6 pm and....it will restart again from 9 pm until we close. As usual it will be available from Sunday through Friday.

Second, there will be more tables. Happy Hour will be now served at the bar for parties of 3 people or less but if you come with a party larger than 3 people, you can choose to have a table in the dining room. Also, if the bar gets full, you can get a table in the dining room.

Finally, the prices! Those will really make anybody happy!

All of our well drinks with gin, vodka, or rum will be available for just $1 and our white house wine and red house wine will be available for just $1.

TIDBIT PLANS A SUMMER MOVE
TO CENTRAL CAPITOL HILL

Just in time for its third anniversary, this Roanoke neighborhood bistro

takes its Madrid-meets-Napoli flavors to the heart of the hill by August

SEATTLE—May 5, 2010—Tidbit proprietors John van Deinse and Nicola Longo are taking their beloved bistro, with flavors influenced greatly by Madrid and Napoli, to new digs in mid summer, with sights set on opening by Aug. 1 or sooner at 1401 Broadway. The current location, 2359 10th Ave E, will continue as usual until the doors open down the hill at its new space.

Located at Broadway and East Union Streets, Tidbit’s new neighbors will include a mix of retail tenants and afford the restaurant sorely needed parking for its loyal guests. The new space, formerly occupied by Vi Bacchus, also gives Tidbit some elbow room with more than 2,100 square feet of combined kitchen and dining room area.

“We’re delighted to bring our Spanish and Southern Italian flavors and hospitality to this vibrant part of Capitol Hill,” van Deinse said. “Tidbit is successful because of our wonderful customers, and we’re building on that by giving them more space, more parking, longer dinner hours and eventually, we hope to add lunch service.”

Tidbit’s current location is the spot that once served as home to Cassis; van Deinse and Longo brought European charm back to the familiar corner. The same touches will be found at the new location: simple but elegant furnishings and the ebullient Longo and van Deinse greeting guests on the floor create a welcoming, approachable place to dine and relax.

Conducive to its name, Tidbit offers a liberal selection of tapas, about 40 percent of the total food on the menu. Beautiful entrees range from a marinated leg of lamb to a delicately layered vegetarian lasagna, and special menus for vegans and children. The restaurant features a grappateca—a rich roster of Italian and Northwest grappa. Old World wines, signature drinks, dessert and fortified wines, aperitifs and liqueur round out a diverse offering. On Tuesday, April 27, Italian and Spanish inspired restaurant, tidbit bistro is hosting a special $15 three-course lunch with Tuscan chef, and nationally recognized cookbook author and food blogger Judy Witts Francini, at 11 a.m. at their restaurant in north Capitol Hill. Stopping in Seattle and the Eastside during her upcoming U.S. cooking class/cookbook tour, Francini is leaving the “boot” and gracing us with her authentic Tuscan cooking, Italian food knowledge and 25 years of food writing/blogging experience. Francini is the author of Secrets from My Tuscan Kitchen, a collection of 93 of her favorite recipes celebrating traditional and new Tuscan culinary specialties.

Tidbit, a dinner-only restaurant, is opening their doors early on April 27 to accommodate their fellow Italian for a special lunch. Tidbit is a participant in Seattle Restaurant Week and in keeping with the price point that week they are offering a $15 three-course lunch. Each course will have three options available, two from tidbit including one from Napoli and one from Spain, and a third Tuscan option from Francini. A new promotion is starting soon!

This promotion is called Seattle Restaurant Week and will run for two weeks for the first time in April 2010. Dine out from April 18 to 29, 2010 and for just $25 you can enjoy a 3 courses meal!

At tidbit bistro, we are really excited to be part of this promotion. With over 100 restaurants participating there should be plenty of choices for everybody! Don't want to miss out on the fun?

Dine Out. Save a LIFE!

Dining Out for Life

Tidbit will take part for the third year in the 17th annual Dining Out for Life, one of Seattle’s favorite ways to fight AIDS. The last Thursday of April, over 150 restaurants from across the region, including tidbit, come together in support of the fight against HIV and AIDS.

What do you have to do? Just dine out with us on Thursday, April 29th, and we will donate a portion of our daily sales, including food, beverage, and alcohol, to Lifelong AIDS Alliance. Proceeds from Dining Out for Life help to feed those living with chronic illness in the Puget Sound region. Services include pickup and delivery of nutritious meals and groceries, housing assistance, medical insurance coverage, and counseling services. So, come see us April 29th.
